Having events/alarms emailed

Greetings, I've hunted and hunted in v0.9.15 to try and get zoneminder to email me when it sees new events, but no matter what I do it wont send email, the SQL shows 0 for emailed. Is there a readme detailing the adding of filters that actually send email?
What I've done so far is to click on the zone events, then show filter window, pick use 1 filter for testing I put frames then 5 then saved the filter as 5frames. I verified the settings in the options screen and expected to see an email waiting for me when an alarm occured.

am I missing something?

Have you gone into options and set the option for having events emailed to you? and also specified the email eddress?

Yes, I have done that. can someone direct me to the URL used by zm to configure the filters that send mail? its possible that I've missed it......
