Intermittent Blue Screen in Live View

Post by wussery »

I have a PC that has 2gb of internal memory running Linux Lite. When I click on the Live View I am able to get an accurate view of the camera feed for about 20-30 seconds and then the screen Live View screen goes completely blue for 1-2 seconds and then switches back to the normal view. What could be the cause here?

Too little information, so here's some things to provide as a starter :)

Cameras: Analogue capture card, USB Webcams, Wired IP Cams, Wireless IP Cams?

Does the bluescreen also get recorded as part of events? Or is it just your "view" of the camera?

What do the zoneminder logs say when this happens? The logfiles are VERY chatty about things, good and bad, so get an accurate timestamp of when the bluescreen happened, and then look at the logs.

If it's an IP camera and the connection is getting dropped, you'll get a mouthful from ZoneMinder about it, until it gets the link back up and working! Wireless cameras can be a bit droppy like that.

If there's too much going on in the logs, temporarily turn off all the others ... (Switch function: None)

It appears the problem is related to my slow wifi connection. I keep getting dropped connections in the log. I'm going to have to see what can do to better my network speed.

Ah, that could do it.

Well, two words of advice. "Wired network" :)

Other than that, you are looking at "tweaking things" and forever being at the mercy of other people's WIFI stomping on yours ...

Have you worked out how much bandwidth your cameras (and other wireless items) are using vs. the theoretical max of your Access Point? You may have to dial back on the resolution/frame rate if you are pushing things too hard.

My new Asus router has resolved my bandwidth issues. I'm consistently getting 7-10fps whereas before the router upgrade I was lucky to get 1-2fps.
