zoneminder extremely slow

Is Zoneminder extremely slow for anybody else? I am running ubuntu 13.10 and sometimes loading the console takes minutes.

Does any one have any idea what I can do to look into the performance?

I was having some weird network issue at the time. I had not noticed it until I got on the ssh shell and was trying to do things. Latency was going from high to low, bandwidth was always low. That issue has resolved itself, no zm appears much faster.

Actually it is still dog slow.
