Unable to install USB camera

I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 server and installed Zoneminder, Apache2 and mjpg streamer. I am able to access the zoneminder web page on my server. I can add the camera but the source is never properly detected. The source is always in red. I am looking for some assistance in installing the USB camera.

Hi Bryansailer,

I know that serialports are normally closed on Ubuntu boxes...

So a solution could be to add the user (www-data) to the dialout group.

something like: sudo adduser www-data dialout
