Re: Koenzie Debian manual - I'm stuck (Debian stable: 2.6.8-
You all have the same problem because you didnt make a fresh install of debian with the settings written in that manual. The installation guide here tells you to configure apt with debian mirror - download.xs4all.nl.theenglishman wrote:tobkron wrote:Hello,
I'm stuck at step 2 (page 7):
edit - /etc/apt/sources.list
since I do not understand the following lines:
In my file, I don't have these lines. Do I have to insert these from somewhere ?Copy the XS4ALL deb line and change stable into sarge (press ESC and x to delete)
(press ESC and yy to copy, ESC and o to add an new line and ESC p to past)
Copy the XS4ALL line again and change stable into etch
Here is what I have in my file:Is that sufficent ?#deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main
deb ftp://ftp3.nrc.ca/debian/ stable main non-free contrib
deb-src ftp://ftp3.nrc.ca/debian/ stable main non-free contrib
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ experimental main
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sarge main
deb http://www.spic.net/zoneminder/debian/ ./
deb-src http://www.spic.net/zoneminder/debian/ ./
Thank's for your help
I've the same problem with Debian Sarge. Can anyone offer any help as I'm completely stuck.
Re: Koenzie Debian manual - I'm stuck (Debian stable: 2.6.8-
As others I have the same "problem".
Work has been put into making this guide and it is a shame that it limits itself by forcing a fresh and concrete installation of Debian.
I think it would reach much wider to have a generic Step 2 guide that is able to embrace a setup with a pre-installed Debian that isn't necessarily based on a fresh install of Debian. Or maybe have a Step 1B... "If you already have instaled Debian then do this and this before continuing to Step 2".
Since this guide didn't work for me I just installed it through a normal apt-get. The software seemed to work and I could access it through a browser. Nevertheless I never managed to get my ONVIF camera to work with the software.
I want to like Zoneminder but as far as I see it it just shows Linux software from its weakest point... it is just to complicated to install and make it work. That is a shame since it looks really powerfull 8as far as I can tell from the screenshots).

Re: Debian installation Manual (New release)
This is a 5+ year old thread. Debian Sarge has been in mothballs for 6 years... I haven't checked out the "doc" yet, but would think that a wiki-based installation guide might lend itself to improved usability and ability to be updated more regularly. Maybe there already is one there, but I stumbled across this old thread first. I'll follow-up here with a redirection to a more up to date document or wiki guide if one exists.
OK, so I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that following the wiki installation guide is probably the way to go. The Zoneminder documentation page, which is likely the way you found this thread, should not even reference this thread. Just go here http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Documentation and follow all the instructions.
I'm building a Debian Unstable VirtualBox VM using ZoneMinder 1.27.0. I don't really see any issues as yet. Seems like quite a bit has changed with 1.27.0, so I'll be excited to see how it goes. If I have the time and inclination, and things go really well, I'll build a VirtualBox VM appliance and make it available.
Cheers!
