Zoneminder for commerical system

Post by bakenoor »

I'm intending to start a company and provide camera services, thinking on using zoneminder. I was wishing to know whether the following works well in zoneminder:

--> Motion Detection
--> Recording to hard disk
--> Email Alerts
--> SMS Alerts

thank you,

Incredible, you want to start a company based on Zoneminder and you are not able to test yourself the performance of:

--> Motion Detection
--> Recording to hard disk
--> Email Alerts
--> SMS Alerts

Let us know your company name when you start it, I will add it to the list of companies I will never trust...

After more than 15 years, no longer using ZM as surveillance system.
Now in the dark side, using a commercial system...

This is off topic so I shouldn't even post this but couldn't resist.

I ran a security CO for years. Once in a while I would get a call to take over or
repair a camera system installed by a licensed CO. This was years ago so none of them
were worth a #$% but I repaired what they had.

Got tired of the security business and went to IT work. Because I was in the security business
for a long time, most security companies knew me and I started getting tons of calls to do the
remote connections for their camera systems. Some of them would ask me to double check the
settings and most of the customers would ask me how to use the DVRs, they were not shown
anything.

I can't remember one of the systems having ANY settings made to them by the installer.
Not even the passcode.
If they didn't come with record setup from the factory there would be NO recordings.
Most COs would install, show them a monitor and fly out the door. When the customer had an incident
the techs at the CO could not make a copy of it.

Needless to say, when the local companies around here tried to install IP systems it cost them bigtime.

OK, my answer to the OP
IF you really get to know Zoneminder AND get a good install tested in every way.
AND you know how to secure it, protect it, and repair it. Zoneminder will do a good job.
Takes time, which in business, is money.
