ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Hello,
Let me describe the scenario: system was really stable for months, Ubuntu 14.04 in a mini-ITX board with quad core and 4 gbytes of RAM, ZM1.28.1, 5 IP Cams, two of them Ffmeg, one VlcLib, two remote Http. All of them working in mocord mode. Everything run smooth, no problems at all.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade to the latest ZM1.28.107 in order to be beta tester for the wonderful Asker app (ZmNinja). I had problems in the database upgrade, that I solved executing some commands using the PHPMyAdmin package. After solving this problems, I did the database upgrade and ZM started to work.
I was surprised that I had to change some monitor source type in order to get the images again. What really impressed me was that changing the source settings (from RTP unicast to RTP/RTSP for instance) in one monitor, was affecting another monitor. So, changing parameters in monitor 1 was affecting the monitors 4 and 5 (both read after the changes).
Right now, I had the system more or less stable, but I could not see the monitor 1 in direct view, but the image is visible in montage view. Is just weird. I didn't saw anything strange in the logs.
Any clue?
Regards & thanks,
PacoLM
PS: By the way, do not take this post as a complain. I'm very happy with this package, Zoneminder is wonderful, my congratulations and thanks to the developers that allow us to have this surveillance solution.

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Nailed down to the error: VLCLib seems that is not working after the upgrade.
FYI, the stream could be accesed by VLC app thru W7 without any problem.

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Relating to my upgrade to 1.28.107 initially I shut down the box (Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit server) and removed an 8 port 8 chip capture card.
Restarted the box and upgraded to 1.28.107. Errors from the get go on the upgrade. This is the first time I have seen this as I have been upgrading over the last couple of years with no issues what so ever.
I decided today to just rebuild the box from scratch as it will alleviate the time I am wasting trying to fix the ZM 1.28.107. It has now been a PITA and a total waste of my time over the last couple of days.
I can today do this in less than 30 minutes.
I do have a backup older version ZM box running on an Intel CPU and another running on an AMD CPU (running 64bit Ubuntu 14.04 server).
I have gone to all HD IP cameras, have a DVR and moved the rest of the analog stuff to Axis servers.
Looked at the Intel box and it is running ZM 1.28.1 with no issues that I can see in the logs.

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Hi,
I was asking for a clue to find a solution for the errors. Yes, I know that setting up everything from scratch is faster and less prone to have errors, but I was expecting to have a cleaner upgrade. I have fixed the problems with the fifth camera. Now everything is working fine, from the cameras perspective.
Another problem that appeared after the upgrade, there are two processes (/usr/sbin/mysqld) that are eating almost 100% of two of four processors.
Regards,
PacoLM

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Guys, sorry you have issues with the upgrade. I spent a lot of time Wednesday and Thursday working on the upgrade procedures. Yes, it is a lot different from past upgrades but the warnings of the differences have been in this forum for a while. If it makes you feel better, I had problems with my production server after the upgrade and I had to learn what to do to get it fixed. And I did without loosing a single event of the almost 60,000 that are on the server! And my client never found out that ZM was not viewable for a good part of Wednesday night.
F.Y.I. I use Clonezilla to load my test server with various versions of Linux. I have a removable USB hard drive with YUMI loaded with Linux utilities on a 5 GIG FAT32 partition and a NTFS partition on the same drive to store the images. If I mess up a test system it takes me less than 5 minutes to get a fresh copy of Linux up and running to install ZM.
For Ubuntu users we now have a listing of commom issues: http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... _on_Ubuntu

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Ive had much trouble to, cant even get to the zm console... reinstalled 4 times after purging it. Thank god it is just on a machine to play with. I'm not touching the other machine 1.28.1
I did notice the folder moved to zm/www ? still will not load.
Followed the wiki steps perfectly
I know the above is just general statements but I'm just bewildered at the moment

Which WIKI steps? Please post the link as there are several procedures and they have changed over the past couple of days.
Also, I just noticed a high load on my quad core server. Actually it was one core pegged at 100%. Stopped Zoneminder, no change. Stopped MySQL and the load dropped off to almost nothing. Restarted MySQL and Zoneminder and the load is balanced between the 4 cores (using htop). Before restarting mysqltuner showed nothing unusual. Thoughts?

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Goofing around let the ZM Intel #2 box auto update Zoneminder. It does not work now. Note that I not had an issue to date over the last year with Zoneminder updates. It is really easy to set up from scratch.
This is what I now see after the update on box #2 going to the web page /zm
ZoneMinder is not installed properly: php's date.timezone is not set to a valid timezone

Understood PacoLM.
Just mentioning that I have not had to do any hands on post update touching of any of the updated versions of ZM in over a year now. The updates have all been very straight forward and personally never had had to touch or change anything after the updates.
I did not read the wiki for the update originally as there was never a need to.

Just did a fresh install of ZM on Ubuntu 14.04 using:

and was able to add my local and ffmpeg cameras with no issues. I did not deviate from teh instructions/input commands but noticed a couple of things that should have additional instructions.

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
Well, if you are doing an upgrade the steps are different.
http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... PA_version
Bet you forgot to remove the symbolic link which points to the old apache config file
Remove the link
rm /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/zoneminder.conf

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
I do not have a file /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/zoneminder.conf
I have /etc/apache2/conf-available/zoneminder.conf which I renamed and rebooted, still the same points to zm/www
Yup ! Wish there was 2 versions of steps, new install and upgrade
I just received an update notice on the other machine Mint 17.2 software manager for v 1.28.107, is that safe to do or not.
Thanks bb

Re: ZM 1.28.107 problems after upgrade
No, not safe. We recommend you do the upgrade from the command line. Better control and you will have to do command line to upgrade the database.
And yes, there are two procedures. http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... _on_Ubuntu
I pointed you to remove one symbolic link but there may actually need to remove a second.
/etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf
If you are using a desktop version you need to treat it as a server and use the server procedures.
