Not getting images from NC1000

Post by ajl199 »

I have tried to search the forums, troubleshooting and FAQ and have not found an answer as far as I can tell but do have a feeling that this has probably been encountered before so please forgive me if it's a stupid question.

I have just installed zoneminder and have an NC1000 network camera the image of which I can see in a browser pointed at:

http://10.10.10.9/Jpeg/CamImg.jpg

When I add this as a source in the ZM web interface it shows up in red and /var/log/zm/zmdc.log fills with errors when I click the "save button". If I try to open the zone window it shows up with a blank space rather than an image. The following link gives a screenshot of what I hope are the relevant parts of the web interface and following that is the log output.

Jun 14 20:14:12 Haar zmc_h10.10.10.9[12654]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = <none>]

Attempting to run:
zmc -H 10.10.10.9 -P 80 -p /Jpeg/CamImg.jpg
or
zmc -m 1

results in it returning immediately and then a 'killall zmc' returns "no process killed".

I would be very very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,

Adrian.

If you open a browser to the camera and right click and select properties does the width and height match your settings?
The opther thing to look at would be the color palate the camera is set to or uses have to match the setting in zm config for that camera.

The camera is colour so I have selected 24-bit colour since it was that or 8-bit greyscale, and width and height are shown as 604px and 480px respectively for both the image given by the camera and the blank space in the ZM interface.

Incidentally, if I was to point ZM at a random static image as a source instead of one from a camera should it accept that? It doesn't, gives the same results as the camera.

I not sure if you missunderstood me or visa/vera with your explenation.
So I'll break down a little more just in case (I'd hate for something simple to get passed up before really changing something more complex).

Open the bowser and put in the URL for the camera so that you can see the image.
Right click on the picture and select propertys. The image size here must be the settings for ZM.

So all of ZM setting have to match exactly what the camera is putting out or it will not work.
Sorry if we are on the same page but need to be sure before we do something that could make things worse if they were not broke to beginwith

That's OK, right clicking on the image (the one I can see on the camera) and choosing properties gives me: width: 640px, height: 480px. I have set those as the capture width and capture height in the source tab of ZM's monitor dialogue. The image is colour (though it doesn't specify how many bits) and so I have selected 24 bit colour as the "remote image colours" in the aforementioned dialogue.

If you have the specs handy you might want to check what color pallate the camera uses and make sure that is compatable with ZM.
Something else you could try is I can setup my ZM box to let you get images from that.
I'll PM ya the info

Cordel, I added your camera, interestingly zmc -m 2 then seemed to stop without ever having started according to the log (below). Both function and source showed up in orange in the web interface but opening the zone window showed a blank space rather than a picture again.

Starting pending process, zmc -m 1
'zmc -m 1' started at 05/06/15 08:32:39
'zmc -m 1' starting at 05/06/15 08:32:39, pid = 15236
Starting pending process, zma -m 1
'zma -m 1' started at 05/06/15 08:32:39
'zma -m 1' starting at 05/06/15 08:32:39, pid = 15237
Starting pending process, zmf -m 1
'zmf -m 1' started at 05/06/15 08:32:39
'zmf -m 1' starting at 05/06/15 08:32:39, pid = 15238
'zma -m 1' crashed at 05/06/15 08:32:53, exit status 255
'zmf -m 1' crashed at 05/06/15 08:32:54, exit status 255
'zmc -m 1' crashed at 05/06/15 08:32:54, exit status 255
'zmc -m 2' stopping at 05/06/15 08:35:54

I then deleted both sources and added yours as the only one. Below is the addition to the log file resultiing from this. Once again no image.

Can't find process with command of 'zmc -m 3'
'zmc -m 3' started at 05/06/15 08:54:00
'zmc -m 3' starting at 05/06/15 08:54:00, pid = 1225
Can't find process with command of 'zma -m 3'
Can't find process with command of 'zmf -m 3'

After that I restarted ZM from the web interface and again got the line in orange but different entries this time in the log:

Server shutdown at 05/06/15 08:57:01
Server starting at 05/06/15 08:57:01
'zmc -m 3' starting at 05/06/15 08:57:05, pid = 1315
'zmc -m 3' started at 05/06/15 08:57:05
'zmfilter.pl' started at 05/06/15 08:57:05
'zmaudit.pl -d 900 -y' starting at 05/06/15 08:57:06, pid = 1323
'zmaudit.pl -d 900 -y' started at 05/06/15 08:57:06
'zmwatch.pl' starting at 05/06/15 08:57:07, pid = 1327
'zmwatch.pl' started at 0Server shutdown at 05/06/15 08:57:01

I am now becoming quite confused. By the way I am using ZM 1.21.0 on Debian and I am under the impression that the NC1000 camera should have worked since at least 1.20.0 having found the page
http://www.zoneminder.com/index.php?id= ... tt_news=39
which is how I originally found ZM.

The main log to look at for any of this kind of issue is /var/log/messages. The zmdc.log may tell you that zmc is crashing but the messages log will tell you why. Hopefully anyway.

Hmm, that's interesting.

After stopping and restarting ZM, with just Cordel's camera configured, /var/log/messages showed only:

Jun 15 23:43:26 Haar zmc_m3[14977]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = <none>]
Jun 15 23:43:26 Haar zmc_m3[14977]: INF [Starting Capture]

zmdc.log gave:

Server starting at 05/06/15 23:43:22
'zmc -m 3' started at 05/06/15 23:43:26
'zmc -m 3' starting at 05/06/15 23:43:26, pid = 14977
'zmfilter.pl' starting at 05/06/15 23:43:26, pid = 14981
'zmfilter.pl' started at 05/06/15 23:43:26
'zmaudit.pl -d 900 -y' starting at 05/06/15 23:43:27, pid = 14985
'zmaudit.pl -d 900 -y' started at 05/06/15 23:43:27
'zmwatch.pl' starting at 05/06/15 23:43:28, pid = 14989
'zmwatch.pl' started at 05/06/15 23:43:28

and other log files appeared in /var/log/zm/. However, there was still no image visible in the window that appears when the zones column is clicked. I then set up my own camera (the NC1000) whereupon /var/log/messages declared:

Jun 15 23:47:07 Haar zmc_m4[15039]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = <none>]

Jun 15 23:47:46 Haar zma_m4[15094]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = <none>]

zmdc.log told me:

Starting pending process, zmf -m 4
'zmf -m 4' starting at 05/06/15 23:48:25, pid = 15099
'zmf -m 4' started at 05/06/15 23:48:25

'zma -m 4' crashed at 05/06/15 23:48:26, exit status 255

and zmwatch.log gave what looks most like a sensible error, but one which I cannot interpret:

Can't get shared memory id '2053971972': No such file or directory
Can't get shared memory id '2053971972': No such file or directory

I'm thinking that I probably have more than one problem going on here. has anyone any ideas about any of them?

Thanks again,

Adrian.

Thanks guys. The problem is now solved. I searched the forum for that last error I had and found the bit about increasing shmmax and shmall. That seemed to sort it. Now on to the rest of the config.

Thanks again for all the help and advice,

Adrian.

Yes, you can close that. It was a great help with debugging things and thanks again.
