How do i install VLC lib files?

Hi,

I have a wanscam NCM625GA and i can open the stream with VLC using (rtsp://user:pwd@192.168.1.80/live/ch1). I have tried many variations of this to setup zoneminder, and have decided i need the VLC lib files to make it work. So i am wondering how to do this.

Since, from your previous thread, we established that you are using ZoneMinder from zmrepo, there is nothing more you need.
All of zoneminder's dependencies, including/especially the vlc libraries, are already installed on your machine for you, courtesy of zmrepo.

If you need help getting this camera working in zoneminder you need to post:
a) The complete camera configuration
b) relavant log file information

Thanks for the reply!
I got the impression i needed to install vlc files from this error. Sorry for the confusion. also I have read and gone by the article you suggested. I think there is a conflict between the text and the boiler plate, where the text says prefix the line with (vlc) and the suggested method is without the (vlc) prefix . Perhaps i am reading it incorrectly.

Upon watching the log file, i see there are plenty of other errors this morning. I have disabled all but 3 cameras that have always worked well. and knocked the frame rate back to 5fps for the 3 cameras.

The computer is an old dell with a 2.8ghz pentium dual core processor. Does the disable select truly unload the processor or should i delete the other cameras all together.

Sounds like you are not using the rpm from zmrepo.

As one can see from the first output you provided, the name of the Packager is Fedora Project, and not me, Andrew Bauer.
You are, again, using the wrong zoneminder package.

You will never get vlc or ffmpeg support to work with that rpm because vlc and ffmpeg support were not built into it.

Referring back to the previous thread you created, you need to, again, completely uninstall ZoneMinder. Next, go to zmrepo.zoneminder.com and follow the instructions on the site. You need to especially follow the note about putting an "exclude" statement into your fedora.repo file. Otherwise, you will end up with the wrong zoneminder package on your system yet again.

Hi,
I was under the impression i had done so, However i see that it hasn't been done correctly. Thank you very much for your time and effort it is greatly appriceated.

I think i will just disable the fedora repo all together while re installing the proper package. I am certian parts of it were from the zoneminder repo as i watched the install carefully and saw the repository pop up a time or too. But, that is neither here nor there as you have proven it didn't go as i thought.

I would not disable the Fedora repo entirely. That could cause other problems.
You need to exclude the zoneminder package specifically as described on the zmrepo site.

In other words, you need to edit the file /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo and add an exclude line to the first block just like this:

This is what i am running into. Not sure how to fix it. Also i found that i had put the exclude line in the fedora repo file, but, it was not adjacent to the first block. Perhaps that was the difference.

I was able to duplicate the problem, yesterday. There was an issue with one of our mirror servers. Not all the files rsynced to the server properly. I have fixed the issue and it is working fine now for me anyway.

Clear your cache and try again:

The old yum tool is still on your system. It has just been renamed.
You could try this if dnf is still not working right:

zmrepo-source should not be enabled, which implies you've been making changes to the repo files.

Try:
- uninstall zmrepo
- delete all files under /etc/yum.repos.d with the word "zmrepo" in it
- re-download the zmrepo rpm for Fedora 23
- install it
- yum install zoneminder

You do not need to modify the zmrepo repo files in any way.
