Upgrade 1.28. -> 1.29 on Debian

Post by Markymark »

Hi,

this post is more or less a follow up on this post here. I tought it makes sense to start a new post with a view to the 'best practice' upgrade process for Debian systems. From what I understood so far there are several was to upgrade. At the moment I do not oversee the related pros and cons.

1. (Re-)Installation using 'dpkg' as mentiond here.

I do not oversee if this will actually allow an upgrade from one version to another or if this is just related to an installation 'from scratch'.

2. Wait for the documentation to 'roll your own package' as mentioned here.

From what I understand this will lead to a .deb package that can be installed the usual way using aptitude.
Will this do a proper upgrade on an existing installation that was done with 'dpkg' (see #1).

3. Wait for the Debian maintainers to release a package as described here.

Taking into account that this might time my questions regading this option are the same as for #2.

Sorry if this are quite basic questions - at least I tried to ask 'as stuctured as possible'.

The documentation regarding installation and upgrade seems to have a focus on Ubuntu. With respect to a 'standard' server system this makes pretty much sense. I just would like to mention that my ZM installation is running on a small ARM board (Cubietruck). With a limitted requirement regarding image quality (3 fps / greyscale / 720 x 480) this runs like a charm with 4 cams at 50% (!) load. Those boards typically run a headless Debian based system. Please keep this in mind as an additional argument for Debian support. I will be happy to add information as far as my horizon permits.

Many thanks in advance.

@all

Since 02/09/2015 there is a ZM 1.29 package available in Debian 'Sid'.
