Your error is caused by old ffmpeg version and a recent change to code in h264, it works with ffmpeg 3.0, but I am not sure which version it came in at the commit was end of 2014 so I assume 2.8 will have it also. Your issue will be finding that version for your chosen distro, which given it doesn't have an official ffmpeg package to start with will prove interesting.
