1.29 gets installed instead of 1.30

Post by aristosv »

Hi,

I am trying to install Zoneminder version 1.30 on Debian Jessie. I am following the guide located here but for some reason Zoneminder version 1.29 gets installed instead of version 1.30.

This is my /etc/apt/sources.lists file, as per the guide, I added the last line.

Code: Select all

deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ jessie main
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ jessie main

deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main

# jessie-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main
deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie-backports main contrib non-free
Any idea what could I be doing wrong?

You need to contact the package maintainer to find out when ZoneMinder 1.30.0 will be added to the Debian repositories.
We don't have any control over that.
Visit my blog for ZoneMinder related projects using the Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, Odroid, and the ESP8266

Per a search of the Debian repositories, ZM 1.30.0 exists in Stretch (testing) and Sid (unstable).

My recommendation id to stick with 1.29.0 for now as there seems to be a few minor bugs in 1.30.0. I will post an install instruction on the Zoneminder WIKI as soon as I find that 1.30.0 is in the repository. Although, there may not be a difference in the procedure...

maybe you add some infos about your processor. i.e. ubuntu xenial and debian jessie have some dependency problems in the ffmpeg libs.

debian jessie wont install the 1.3 due to processor incompatiblity ( no amd64 ).
Paket zoneminder-dbg
jessie-backports (debug): Zoneminder -- debugging symbols
1.29.0+dfsg-1~bpo8+1: amd64 arm64 armel armhf i386 mips mipsel powerpc ppc64el s390x

Paket zoneminder-dbgsym
sid (unstable) (debug): Debug symbols for zoneminder
1.30.0+dfsg-1 [debports]: alpha hppa ppc64 sparc64 x32
1.30.0~rc2+dfsg-1 [debports]: sh4

7 months later, followed the same instructions and installed zm on x32 and x64 bit debian machines and v1.29 is installed.

Yep, and 7 months later there is still no one here who has any control over what packages exist in the Debian repos.

Did you do what I said and contact the zoneminder Debian package maintainer?

Rather than wait for someone else, why don't you build your own zoneminder deb package?

Well, if you would read the title of the install on the WIKI it does say Zoneminder 1.29.0.
https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Debian_8_64 ... e_Easy_Way
If there were a 1.30.0 for Debian 8 don't you think I would have done, at least, an upgrade instruction?

As for Zoneminder 1.30.0 on Debian there is a preliminary instruction for Debian 9 with Zoneminder 1.30.0.
https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Debian_8_64 ... e_Easy_Way
However, as Debian 9 is still a release candidate version you are taking your chances that things will stay the same when it is released. As for me, I am going to wait for the final before I update the instructions. I have several other projects to work on and improve for the good of Zoneminder.
And it looks like we will be shoveling out here in the next couple of days...

^ Just a point I'd like to make to avoid any confusion. bbunge volunteers his time by writing zoneminder installation instructions for debian & ubuntu. He is not the package maintainer.
