GV-600 Not Working

Post by oakguy »

I had previously had this card working with an earlier Zoneminder but then scratched the whole thing and I'm trying again. Any ideas as to the card being a 157? what settings and where do I put them.

thanks

Never mind, I got through this but wow. My hardware is old as well. Old GV-600 and cameras. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great. My house is wired for wired cameras. I have a set of 4.

I would say that the card will not work with modern versions of Linux. Searching on Google did not turn up any success stories with Zoneminder.

Even the cheapest, modern IP camera is vastly superior to yesteryear's high end analog camera.
You would get the best experience by replacing your four cameras with ip and the four cables with structured cabling.

If that is not something you are interested in doing, a good compromise would be to buy a 4 channel video encoder.
This would get you indefinite compatibility with ZoneMinder and allow you to keep your existing cameras and wiring.
Even an old video encoder, such as the Axis 241Q found on ebay, would be perfect.
I have also used a Granstream GXV3504 successfully, but I see the price for this unit has literally doubled since I last bought it.

What would you suggest for a PC card encoder? Like the Geovision 4 port or 8 port cards? Something that I can find good Zoneminder data on? My home is hardwired with power and video cables already in the needed areas. Thats why a capture card would work best.

Thanks very much!

All surveillance capture cards have gone the way of the 8 track player, which is why we are trying to steer you away from them. The industry no longer uses them.

If you search the forums, you will see the difficulty many have had getting any of them to work in modern linux distro. The kernel drivers for all these capture cards are no longer maintained, and require a very good knowledge of the driver (often the bttv driver) and video for linux to work properly.

If you really want to stick with a capture card, then the simplest thing to do would be to use an old Linux distro which supports the card and never upgrade it.

Again, an IP Video Encoder would allow you reuse your cameras and existing cabling. This is the way to go if you want to use a modern Linux distro and the latest version of ZoneMinder.

Ok. It appears other than Geovision, there are not allot of choices with PC card based dir cards. What is a good ip camera to use with Zoneminder?

Thanks
