New installation problems

Hi guys,

I am new to ZM and am having trouble with the cameras. Here some info:
- I am running Ubuntu Desktop 16.04.1 (clean install right before ZM installation)
- ZM V. 1.30.0
- installed using the installation guide from the ZM homepage
- seems fine working
- set up two cameras:
- Panasonic BL-C10A
- GW Secure Model GW-5037IP

I cannot see the camera pictures if I click on the camera names.

Check the WIKI instructions...
Set your resolution lower. Use vlc to check your stream settings.

The Panasonic camera has a pretty low resolution. According to the logs, ZM seems to capture the stream, I installed VLC and using the same settings as in ZM I can see the video just fine.

Ok guys, I found the problem. And I am embarrassed to say that it was the path_zms not set right.
So options/paths/path_zms config entry.

Gold star to the OP for posting such a wealth of data. It makes zeroing in on the problem much faster.

We get the infamous PATH_ZMS issue reported every week. It is clear that many aren't reading that step in the instructions or didn't follow the instructions at all. It would be helpful to us, if you could tell us how to make that PATH_ZMS instruction stand out more, since so many people run into this problem.

Well, one thing is to at least change the order of the last step on the readthedocs.io. Make it a "mandatory last step" to check. It says congrats and then after that to check the path_zms ... would be smart to do it the other way round. I need to admit I just stopped reading at the congrats ...

I ran into the same issue.. spent an hour googling and trying different things. And then finally saw this thread.

I reccomend moving the ZMS_PATH check before instead of after the "Congratulations Your installation is complete" bit in the installation instructions. Might help other impatient souls like me.

Thank you so much for this head-check. The CGI_PATH is an important detail missing from the setup guide I followed.

The readthedocs version of the Ubuntu Easy Install is missing this last step at this time. http://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/sta ... untu-16-04 I hope I can find the right place over on Github to influence getting that changed.
