filter howto

Post by HarryB »

I am running Zm 1.30 on a RPI 3B under fedora 23 with a single camera with a single zone set to Modect. With a low frame rate everything works fine and cpu is 97% idle. The application will be to monitor a door in a retail location during business hours. The zone is the doorway. When someone enters or leaves through the door zm captures an event.

Now, I want the RPI to play a wav file as a door chime to alert staff that someone has entered the store. I have read the documentation, but am not certain how to proceed. So, I have these questions:

1. Do I need to use a filter here? I basically want to execute a script that goes off immediately to sound the chime when an event begins. If the chime doesn't go off until the event is over, then it's too late to be useful. I am puzzled because triggering an executable on an event doesn't seem like a filtering function to me, but I don't see anywhere else to enter a path to a script.

2. Most of the discussion about filters in the documentation assumes that an action is being applied to a group of events as a batch. But I only want to apply the filter to the event that is currently occuring. Do I set Date/Time to now in addition to setting the monitor name to the camera.

It would be helpful to look over some examples of filters with a description of what they do. Is there a collection of them somewhere?
