IR Lights can easily be seen using a cell phone camera, or other handheld video cameras, just FYI. Though, IR lights, the LED kind, are harder to shoot out since you'll need to aim at something you are seeing by proxy.
(Case in point, take a TV remote, and aim it at your camera, then press a button to watch it flash.)

I have built an IR illuminator to try out but the cameras I have on the road have IR filters. it is possible to remove the IR filter I just haven't done it yet to see how the daylight image will change yet.
