Thanks,

I did not stop zm before trying xawtv and tvtime. I am trying it now.

What is meant by "scan through the ports. I have a local camera?

I stopped zm and ran xawtv and tvtime - still have blue screen. I rebooted with card=10 and still have the blue screen.

What if I change ZM_DB_SERVER from localhost to the ip address? Something strange is happening. zms is streaming put I dont get a picture. Here ist:

The chip is only capable of displaying one port at a time. zm will capture an image from one port and switch to the next port and capture an image then switch to the next port etc...
Of course it depends on how you have zm configured so the behaveor will differ but I think this should help you to understand.
Now you have a blue screen in tvtime, have you tried putting the camera on differant inputs on your card or switching the input in tvtime?

OK! The ports are the 4 inputs! (I was thinking of network ports, been up too long!)

How do I change the behavior of zm? Or change the configuration to accomodate the "port switching" ?

I am going to unplug all the camers except one.

Thanks

Anthony

yeah I should probably say "video inputs" instead of "ports" my bad and I'll try to break that bad habit from now on.

I didn't realize you had cameras on more than one input (thats a good thing as it helps).
Where did you get the capture card from?
The blue screen in zm is a good thing, it means that zms is doing it's job properly.
It just a matter of getting the card configured correctly.
Looking at you log from tvtime it shows that it was trying to use a PAL setting and you most likely have NTSC seeing how you are here in the states.

Also take a peek at your /var/log/messages and see if there is anything that stands out there.
You might also try:
zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v
and see what it returns.

I'm pretty sure your down to one of two things. The card configuration or setting the correct video input settings in zm. Seeing how you are not seeing anything though tvtime you need to sort out the card config.

I'll be around 1:00pm your time, if it's not sorted you can call me via freewolddialup.com with the number in my sig below, or if you want I can give you a call or work something out either way.

It is about 1 p.m. in Oak Ridge, TN. time. I probaly missed you. I tried FWD, I probably didn't do it right. I will try again. What exactly is FWD. Seems to be very cool.!

The card and 4 cameras came with a windows security system. The system was not flexible enough (what should I have expected!) so I deciided to search and research a Linux based system. Of course Zoneminder was the choice. So I dual booted Windows 2000 and Fedora 4 .

By the way, everything works fine under Windows system.

I'll open ssh for you too.

Thanks for your time!

zm -d /def/video0 -q -v

I notice you still have your cameras set to PAL are you sure that your cameras are PAL and not NTSC?

Thanks,
I reset to NTSC.

I am going to look at the BIOS.

I may have to write a control.

Power is getting to the camera, but the camera is not "taking the picture". Maybe a control line is not being enabled?

If you have a TV with a composite input, you might want to plug the cameras in to it and make sure that they are producing a picture. Everything says that it should be working.
If you would like you may email the ssh info and I can go in and see if I can figure it out. Or send a phone number and I'll give you a jingle (I can call 75% of the world and it don't cost me a dime).
I don't know why FWD didn't work for you but I have gotten several calls though it today so I know it's functioning. If your using windows then their communicator should work HERE otherwise sjlabs.com makes a nice soft phone for VoIP that you can get a FWD profile for and it supports serveral platforms including win, win moble, linux, etc... You do have to register with freeworlddialup for the service and get a number assigned before you can use it.

FWD is a cool deal. I'll set it up.

First I'll open ssh for you. I'll email the stuff.

The cameras have a BNC connector/cable and a 5v power supply plug.

I also noticed that when, under options-video-ZM_VIDEO_STREAM_METHOD = mpeg the screen displays a puzzle piece and "click here to download plugin". When jpeg is slected then the blue screen is displayed.

Thanks

Anthony

are you sure there 5v? most board cameras are 9, and most cams are 12v dc or 24ac, this might be your problem, dont just put 9v into them though if they are 5v, just seems very low to me

James,

You are right!
Been up too late
Can't see straight

The voltage is 12v DC for each camera.

I am curious about a message in the previous /var/log/messages: "session open / close . . . for root / apache"

Thanks!

Anthony
