ZM and 30 ip cams

Post by khar »

Hi guys,

I am trying to set up a system with 30/34 ip cams (Hamlet HNIPC30)
This is my server config:

Athlon 64 3200+
ram 2 gb
slackware 10.2 w/ 2.6.13
ZM 1.22.2

and images MUST to be:
640x480 color
at least 2 fps

For now I've tryed with 20 cams and found that the Load Average is about 5.0/11.0 (I have some script working to backup images into 2 external disk, and firefox polling 4 cams each 5 secs), that cause the server to be TOOOO slow sometime.

A test with a similar system but with only 512 MB ram was a failure (load average over 40 and server inaccesible even from console).

I would to know if somebody among you successed to set up a usable 30 ip cams system. My problem is that it seems zmc is polling at a rate of more than 2 fps, whatever config change i try.

Some advice/suggestion/tip/other?

Thank you!

Yes, I have a production system with 8 ip cams (axis 211 with mjpg), Pentium 3ghz, 2 gb of ram, kernel 2.4.31, reading 1.5/2.0 fps at 640x480 in colors, plus firefox reading all cams in streaming, that show a Load Average of about 4.5

No, i'm not ... in my previous post i wrote "1.5/2.0 fps": it was wrong. I get 0.5/1.0 fps, that is 1 frame each 1.0/2.0 secs. This variation is due, imho, to the load of the server.

i would say no, but a new quad core duo might be able to, you are asking your machine to handle over 350 fps in normal res 320x240.
but with a quad core, mmx libs and no motion detection and a lot of ram, fast hd etc you 'might' get it working. Forget having local viewing too mind

I never used cards, just ip cams...
Today I tested a system with amd64 3200, 2GB, libjpeg-simd, 28 ip cams, 640x480 color at 0,1 fps and I obtained a Load Average of 0.04/0.2. I am impressed!
