Only if it takes more than a second, and even then computers can run many many concurrent processes, that is after all how zoneminder works - fetching many frames per second from many cameras.

I've done exactly that for 3 cams without any significant load (just copying). Your conversion will add some load so as suggested, tweak the values until you get something smooth. If the conversion is very slow you may need a value of > 1s (say a cron pull of once every 2 or 3s).

It was a good suggestion. Probably your second best solution after buying an Axis :)

What a wimpy machine... :) I was just doing a theoretical option. Execution would be limited to hardware at hand. No spare quad Xenons laying around then? ;) But it would still work for one every minute.
