Strange that debian should not see the HDD - it's a pretty mainstream distro and Ubuntu is based on it. What I have done is installed onto an 8G flash key (pretty cheap now days). Works fine if you only want ZM on it (write performance is not amazing)

Just thought I'd post an update to this thread - there is a new update available (v3.1) which seems to fix everything - works with zoneminder flawlessly now at 20fps+ using the url:
