Balun Adaptor BNC to RJ45 with Sony 1/3 ccd cammera

Post by cybermachi »

Hi all

i wanted to chekc if this set up will work.

is it possible to buy a normal CCTV camera say the sony 1/3 ccd which comes with BNC video output.

Then buy a balun adaptor(BNC to ethernet(RJ45)) and then connect the balun abaptor to the bnc output on the camera, and run a cat5e/cat6 cable from the balun to a Switch/Router.

then install zoneminder, and then run a ethernet cable from the zoneminder server to the same swithc/router the camera is connected to.

is posssible for zoneminder to capture the video of the sony camera, which is connected via blaun adator.

i meant to capture the video without a capture card, just use balun adator to conver the coax bnc from camera to ethernet, and capture the video right to zoneminder.

Balums work

We have a system with two cameras connected with siamese coax and one by cat5 style twisted pair and balums. It is farther away from the DVR than the coax cameras and has as good if not better signal.

It also has power (24v AC) and other signal wires running in the same conduit with no crosstalk. All of our future cameras will use them.

And it won't make any difference on camera brand or model as long as they have matching connectors.

NO>>>>>>
This is not possible. You will ruin your devices if you try. You need a video server to covert CCTV video to an IP video.

What he said. It is cat 5 cable, not Ethernet. A switch will cause the smoke to escape from the chips.

Sorry had very limited time before.
All a balun does is adjust impedance so the you can run a video signal on CAT5 instead of using coax. It does not make a cctv cam in to a network device.

If you need to use network, then you need either an IP Cam, or a video server like Axis makes that you can plug a cctv cam into and it has a network interface built in.
