Well...after having my camera lock up on several random occasions and three firmware downgrades the camera is in a semi-stable state (just don't click on breach manager as it locks the camera up and the only fix is a power cycle which becomes painful when the cam is at a remote site 40 miles away)..has anyone had any luck getting the camera to only snap greyscale images? I have asked gadspot but I am learning quickly that their tech dept is not very technical - Their response was....

When attempting to capture images from the camera in greyscale all I get is a black screen which I presume is caused by the camera sending out images in 24bit color - thoughts?

Heh, good to see they're still keeping their high standards - but at least you didn't get insulted like I did when I asked why the firmware wasn't available. (From your description, looks like it was commented out for good reason)

As for greyscale, I don't think it's possible. Gadspot (the manufacturers) don't seem to focus too heavily on integration or compatibility (some of the newer range don't do jpgs at all) and as far as I've been able to find, support no url switches like Axis do. Certainly my gs1200 is only recording in 640x480 at colour (or whatever resolution I set globally view the IE interface).

Axis only for me now, I'm afraid.

well I do have to say in response to gadspots support is the gentleman I spoke with was prompt and polite, just not very knowledgeable about his product - gadspot is nothing more than a reseller, just wish I could have the manufactures contact info - for the price ($85US) it works well and the inferred night vision is a nice feature to have….just wish it did greyscale as it would save on bandwidth

How do you get on with the infra red?

On mine the led-glare makes it unusable so I've had to disable the LED's. (Not sure why it's glaring, the camera is pushed up tight to the glass)

any light source will reflect back. You need to seal the lens to the glass and thaty will stop it. Its why proper cameras dont have IR built in

It is sealed - the lens mount has a soft rubber seal which is pushed up tight against the outer screen. My only guess is that the light is bouncing back from the rainshield of the case - the LED's are non-directional and must be throwing IR everywhere.
