thumbnail generation on event

I don't know if this would make a difference but it seems to for me.

but I think the UI would be much more snappy if the thumbnail was generated at event time not view time.

I open up an event window for the first time with 500 events, time its load.

Then clear the browser cache and load the same 500 events, it seems to load about 2-3x faster and have much less load impact on the system.

I think this is because the thumbnails are already there.

It seems to me generating them at event time would place a small extra amount of load on the machine, and reduce load spikes by the UI at view time. It also seems to make viewing events more enjoyable with less wait :)

On my ZM servers, I have thousands of events. I might actually view 10 of them. I would rather not generate thousands of thumbnails no one will ever see. :)

I agree with Lee, generating thumbs at event time would increase load and use disk space.

Hate to say it but I on board with Lee and James as well for the same reasons.

Wow! I never knew that agreeing with me was that painful.

well maybe it could be an option setting for those of us that scan through all of our events :) because in this case it makes a big difference.

Seems to me an option setting defaulting to do not create would be the answer here.
