zoneminder_1.22.3-9_i386.deb for Debian/Ubuntu TESTERS NEEDE

If you've made a patch to quick fix a bug or to add a new feature not yet in the main tree then post it here so others can try it out.

zoneminder_1.22.3-9_i386.deb for Debian/Ubuntu TESTERS NEEDE

Post by PeterHoward »

(Yes I know that 1.23.0 is just around the corner, but the changes here will still be relevant)

I have finally put in 3 outstanding fixes that have been waiting for me to get my act together since mid August. These are:
  • "zmfix -a" has gone into the init script
There is now /var/cache/zoneminder/temp linked to /usr/share/zoneminder/temp so exports should work.
The version of apache2 required has been relaxed (in response to a bug reponrt in the Debian BTS)
However, there is one teeny tiny issue. And it relates to why I haven't gotten this out earlier.

Back in August my main server which, among other things, has my cameras attached, died rather suddenly. Motherboard death (confirmed by various tests involving replacement of processor and memory - and now it "eats" processors too :-( ). Lack of immediate funds for replacement. The disks from said server are currently rehosted in an old Celeron-500 machine I had lying around. No cameras. No camera card (I'm dubious as to whether something that slow could drive anything). And starting up vmware to try to check all forms? Um, I don't like pain that much.

This makes it a tad hard to test that I haven't broken things. So, I'm asking for a handful of volunteers to do a quick test of it before I make it generally available (and especially before it gets uploaded to debian unstable). If you can upgrade from -8 and/or do a clean install (preferrably with no apache2 installed either) on a debian sid or any ubuntu machine, please let me know and I'll lob a package at you. Once I'm feeling safe, I'll make it a general release.

Then I can start looking at 1.23.0

I'll give it a try for you. I can't promise how much help I will be but, I have no reservations about doing a clean install and testing anything at your request. In fact, I have been meaning to do one so I could update the walk through I did.

Successful Install on Ubuntu Server 7.04 - so far

Post by jimf »

**APOLOGIES**

I should have included that I have installed zoneminder_1.22.3-8_i386.deb.
Will rebuild server using zoneminder_1.22.3-9_i386.deb

Hi, have a successful install on Ubuntu Server 7.04 using the following resources;

ftp://ftp.northern-ridge.com.au/zoneminder/README.txt
ftp://ftp.northern-ridge.com.au/zonemin ... tu/dapper/
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... highlight=
http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10006
http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... rom_a_.deb

Heres a link to my install notes so far (NOT my own work C&P from other links)
http://mimir.zapto.org/~jimf/zoneminder/install_notes

The first server is using a mini itx board, 1GB Ram, 400GB IDE HDD, housed in a two board 1 unit rack. (see image)
http://mimir.zapto.org/~jimf/zoneminder/server_rack.jpg

It will support two Axis 210 POE Cameras per board when finished, this is a school security system development.

Minor niggle so far (typing this from home so may not be entirely accurate);

When I enable zm_auth and add a user with view privileges (security staff type people) I loose all images (main monitor view, cycle/montage etc) When I disable zm_auth I get them back, ideas?

Big THANKS, to developers and packagers (especially the deb/ubuntu guys/gals)

Have fun, be happy and well,
jimf

I'd love to chase this down, but as the abridged sob story points out at the start of this thread, I don't have any cameras attached right now :( Hopefully I'm only a week or two away from resurrecting my main server.

I haven't played with the auth bits for a loooong time (prob Sep/Oct last year), so I may well have stuffed something up in the packaging in the interim.

Yeah, sorry about your woes Peter, wish I could help. Having a look around, there may be some candidates to look into.

Of course it helps if you use the correct option string (ZM_OPT_USE_AUTH) :? doh!

Ooops... I had it running fine, but rebuilt the system to 64bit using the gutsy repos. I will make another one and test WITH authentication.

I'll be back at 'work' tomorrow, anything I can specifically look at for you, logs etc, let me know, if I can borrow a camera I might just bring the whole thing home with me.

Is there any chance to compile it with ffmpeg support? =P

Eh? The installs I've done following instructions found in this forum thread install ffmpeg as a dependancy.

Code: Select all

Howdy Peter,
I have come accross a couple posts recently where a user enables authintication in anything other than plain mode and they can't login. You might want to check your log from configure and make sure that the OpenSSL libraries are being found okay.
Regards,
Corey
