i want to use 2 hard drives . i was wondering if zm will be able to delete automatically from the 2nd hdd
If i set the /var partition to be mounted on 2nd hdd, will the filter be able to delete old events from it automatically?

anyone tried to run zm with 2 hdd?

what do you guys recommend. I use mpeg and mocord with 8 cameras. I have a 170GB on /var partition, but it only records for 2 days. I don`t want to register with jpeg cuz the screen moves too slow.

thanks

use frameskip to lower the frame rate when no motion is occuring. I used to have a 2 camera 80 gig system at home configured this way and keeping about 2 months.

You can use raid0 or lvm for your var partition and make it as big as you dare

Hi mate,

I use a 120G IDE drive for my root and swap partitions, and a 400G SATA drive as /var/www. This works well for me, and I still set the purge to about 95% of the drivespace.

I assume the ZoneMinder program looks at the partition where it is installed for the drive space, as I have not had a problem in the past with my older install (40G / & swap, 120G /var/www). It always purged the 5 week old videos out nicely.

What sort of framerate are you running? In my previous setup (120G recorder), it stored 5 weeks of normal everyday activity capturing at 4fps with 4 cameras in "MoDect" mode. So 8 Cameras, you should get about 2 weeks, unless it's a supermarket, or busy freeway you are monitoring.

i use mocord because i don`t know how to setup modect to record when motion is detected and then continue to record for 5-10 more minutes even if there is no more motion. Modect creates a lot of tiny events (5-30 secs).

i see it records at 4-5fps

Set the post buffers higher for each monitor.

agree with cordel, if your running at 1 fps and you want 3 mins of post images then set the buffer to 180. Adjust for your framerate and duration

post image buffer is set to 1000 but i still get tiny events :(

i`m working on it to see why it stops somethimes when motion is over. Also if i open the camera to view the event is splitted or so, another event is generated... i`m confused... i mighjt be wrong but what i see there are only small events even with post buffer set to 1000

i`m looking now at a 4 sec event.. lol

if i record with 4fps and post buffer is set to 1000 i should get like 4 min?

how do you calculate that lol :P

Just in case....
You have to restart ZM anytime you make changes to the monitor settings for them to take effect.
