ZMliveCD 1.22.2.1 problem:

When I get through the installation and try to boot from HD I get Grub error 15.

First installation attempt I think I did choose the wrong place to install bootloader. But doing it again, I read and reread the install instructions and followed the instruction rather than the illustration (which I believe did not match the text).

What do I do. Should I download a newer version?
What more info do I need to come up with?

The machine is a 1700MHz Athlon w. 512Mb RAM.

I was hoping to run 2 cameras each on it's own ImpactVCB 558 video grabber board. One BW and one Color/BW night cam. Plus one USBcam and one Axis cam. The last 2 with low framerate. If this machine is too slow for this, tell me and I'll stop trying with this machine.

I just tried LiveCD 1.22.3, and this does not boot from the CD.
Very strange, because I have changed nothing, and 1.22.2.1 had no such problem.

I have 2 CD drives, tried both and there is no difference.

I used a USB keyboard/mouse and thinking it may be the cause, switched to a standard wired keyboard. (The USB keyboard did not bring up any characters.) No change except that I can now get a reaction from typing.

The last activity is (typed from screen, so hopefully no typos)

it might be your ide / sata chipset is too new for the live cd, you can try different modes on the sata to see if it will boot.

Thanks for replying. But no, there is no Sata in this box.

I went back to 1.22.2.1 and finally got the boot installed. I'm still not sure what went wrong the first time, but persistency seems to help. Maybe because I specified formatting the disk to remove any old mistakes.

THen after some struggling with updating to 1.22.3, it seems to be running now. I have not connected any camera, but I hope that will work.

I found no mention of where to put the upgrade, but it seems that may not matter, as the files ended up correctly, or so it seems.

It would not start again, and I found this to be caused by the user and password from the LiveCD and the upgrade is different. I solved that by editing them in the config file. I also found that some of the commands had to be sudo'ed or they would crash halfway through. Hopefully it did no harm that some of it was re-done, like the DBupgrade. I took a 1 1/2 hour crash course in SQL tonight, and the database looks to be in one piece.

For the next guy doing this, a hint: Try zmuser and zmpass for the database.

Maybe someone who actually have a clue could do an upgrade from the most recent LiveCD to the most recent ZoneMinder and do a step-by-step instruction? I realize testing every from-version would be a huge job, but assuming it going in steps would be more realistic. And leave each instruction in the forum or wiki, as some (like me) may be precluded from using the last LiveCD.

In my case it works more like try to bang in one more nail to see if it sticks. But from woodworking experience I have found that when it sticks, it's so damaged by trying that it easily falls apart again.
