IP cameras mostly seem to be pretty expensive gadgets, and megapixel ones particularly so, but I have noticed that a new way of assembling your own seems to be becoming possible.
If you combine an NSLU2 ($80US) with one (or two?) of the new generation of UVC-compliant 2M-pixel webcams like the Logitech Pro 9000 ($85US) it looks as though you can run OpenWRT with the uvc-streamer package on the NSLU2 -- and get an IP camera with quite startling resolution and enough performance to do 5fps.
Is anyone doing this? Will ZoneMinder cope with 1600x1200 images? It all looks a bit alpha-but-basically-working at the moment, so I'm interested in trying it out. It has the advantage of being open-source code talking to an apparently well-defined spec (the USB Video Class spec), so I get the feeling that it ought to work, if not now, soon...
