Installation 1.23.1 Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy with pv-149

Hi,
I installed zoneminder according to this howto http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=110
I think i managed to install most off the things without problems, but i the problem is that i can make zones but it doesn't detect anything, please can someone help me with this?
