Hi I am very new to linux and have a ubuntu 7.10 desktop setup running for my ftp files. I have been tryng to setup ZM for the last 3 days but can not seem to get it to show any video or still images in a webpage.

As ubuntu 7.10 comes with ZM as part of the distro I was wondering if anyone has a very easy to follow guide on what is needed to do after installing it. I am getting a little confused with the other guides on the forum as they don't seem to be inline with what is needed for a ubuntu 7.10 install.

I am sure it must be very easy once the correct procedure is followed, so any help would be very welcome.

thank you
Studiodaz.

I have several out and running. Peter has updated debs available. I have also posted a howto in the forums and on the Wiki several times. However, you may have a card detection problem. You might want to start a new thread with the actual issue you are having.

I will have a look again to see if I can find the 7.10 install guides, thanks.

The problem I was having is it will not show any image in the webpage monitor box that opens up. My cam works with xawtv but I can not do a zmu -d <device_path> -q -v' Is it correct to input zmu -d device_0 -q -v' ?

thanks again

ive successfully set up zm on ubuntu using the zm package available in the ubuntu repository (getting those should be pretty easy) and a few steps that are outlined in the documentation. here is the link to what you probably need http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... rom_a_.deb

and this is the imporatant info from that link:
Link Apache
sudo ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf

Restart Apache
sudo apache2ctl restart

suid zmfix
sudo chmod 4755 /usr/bin/zmfix

Run zmfix
zmfix -a

Fix export problem
sudo chown www-data.www-data /usr/share/zoneminder/temp

edit /etc/sysctl.conf and add the following lines (for 128meg shared mem)
kernel.shmall = 134217728
kernel.shmmax = 134217728
the other issue you should be aware of is that the version in the ubuntu repository does not work correctly with login authentication enabled. you can dl an updated version in order to fix taht as mentioned here http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11166
PeterHoward wrote: You can pull the 1.22.3-10 from ftp://ftp.northern-ridge.com.au/zoneminder and then a dpkg -i of it should upgrade nicely.
if these steps dont work, then youll need to post some log info so we can see whats going on with your isntall.

AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I got too keen about cleaning out in preparation for 1.23. And then forgot that I had. Use the mirror at ftp://twisted.bluecherry.net/zoneminder until I restore thing tonight (my time).

Actually, it's even more embarrasing than that. They are there, I just moved them and forgot

Judging by the load on the machine, it looks like its not even running the cap card anymore? and the fps is sitting at 0?

Does someone have a good link for a newb to start looking into this? - eg how to make sure all the appropriate processes are running?

Cheers Steve

I tried this again...
sudo ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf

Restart Apache
sudo apache2ctl restart

suid zmfix
sudo chmod 4755 /usr/bin/zmfix

Run zmfix
zmfix -a

Fix export problem
sudo chown www-data.www-data /usr/share/zoneminder/temp
and it seems to have returned to the land of the living for the moment.

(xubuntu 7.10 with zoneminder1.22-10)

when you update, i think the file permissions go back to the default settings. when you redid the above commands, you set the permissions again so that ZM could work.
