How to get better image quality from ZM stills?

Post by zonaboy »

I'm running ZM 1.23.3 with a PV-149 capture card. When I run Mplayer to view my camera with a resolution of 640x480... it actually looks pretty good. The image is relatively clear/crisp and I can make out some 'text' that appears in the camera's FOV.

BUT, when in zoneminder, viewing the camera in Monitor mode (320x240), the image is not as crisp and the text isn't readable like it is with Mplayer. I know that NTSC is really just two 320x240 frames interlaced, but why is Mplayer able to display a higher quality image from the same input source? I also can't get ZM to monitor in 640x480... I just get a broken link for both streams and stills... is that not possible?

in ZM options, i have ZM_JPEG_STREAM_QUALITY set to 100 but that doesn't seem to change things much?

btw... the camera is a KT&C KPC N700NH which advertises to support 550TVL.

thanks in advance!

just needed to switch to grayscale palette to get 640x480. I could probably also bump up shared memory to keep RGB24.
