Hi all,
I recently installed ZoneMinder on a Mandrake 10.0 beta1 system as I reported on the installation forum. Today I discovered that on this system I can access a camera with xawtv while ZoneMinder is also capturing from it. I believe this is a feature of the v4l2 interface. While watching the stream at 3 fps on mozilla, I can also see it in real time on xawtv. I can change brightness, contrast, etc using xawtv and ZoneMinder shows the output changes without any complaints. This system has a TVview99 tuner card so only one camera input. I will try this with a multicapture card as soon as possible.
With Zoneminder capturing from one cam at 3 fps in monitor mode, top reports aproximately:
with Mozilla viewing the stream and xawtv, cpu use is 22%
with Mozilla only, cpu use is about 20 %
with xawtv only, cpu use is 3%
In mocord mode watching the stream with mozilla uses about 43% cpu, while just closing the watchstream window, keeping the console view open, and using xawtv to view the feed drops cpu use to 16%.
I find this discovery exciting and thought you all might like to hear about it. A good reason to move to the new kernel.

Re: Kernel 2.6.x and v4l devices
Are there any live cd's avail with the 2.6 kernel? I'd love to boot that up and see how well my particular camera does.
