What do I look for in a capture card?

I have established that my Hauppague PVR 150 does not work as it uses the ivtv driver and not the bttv one.

As a result I am in the market for a new capture card and have seen these two:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... m8#specifi

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... rd&doy=3m8

Does any one know if they will work? How can I tell / what do I need to look for to see if it will use the bttv drivers?

I have searched the forum for them with no luck, and I know that in the wiki there are cards that do work, but finding somewhere near me to buy one is a different matter! (Plus I don't want to spend loads - this is for a home system)

i have never seen such a big price for this kind of card. it is hard to tell without seeing chip on this card if it will work. i think You should rather look on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CCTV-DVR-PCI-CAPT ... .m14.l1318

15£ for such a card is the biggest pricw i would give.

the moste safe choice (i think so) is to buy card with bt878 chip (conexant)

cheers

The thing to look for is known linux support! Many bt878 cards just fail, and no one knows why, or cares. I have a few that work, and so does Bluecherry. We are both in the US, however. But at $45 or less, you might still consider it.
