thanks jameswilson... only 2 questions:

- is Mandriva free? as I see here http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=mandriva, it isn't...
- why should I use a livecd distro instead of installing linux on an HD?

Mine! Mine damnit! Only Mine!!!
Seriously, who do you have close by to help you? Go with what they know... If no one, I like Ubuntu, but they really screwed up with Hardy, so I recommend one version back. (Gutsy, 7.10) Good community support, and ready built zoneminder debs.

I like fedora, but I am getting worn out with all the upgrades.
I just finished redoing my ZoneMinder with the Centos guide in the ZoneMinder Wiki.

I had it running Ubuntu 8.04 but it seemed a bit heavy for me and I am more used to "the RedHat way" , yea, run what ya know.

So far so good with Centos, it's trimmed down. I need some tips on harding so that's got to be next.

Best of Luck,
Pat Jr.
