i'm new to security and have a little experience with fedora buy my question is how to set up the hardware not zoneminder
I want to be able to use a wireless camera and 3 wired camera's (the wireless one out at my barn) all IR
I've got a fedora server up and running webpages and it has a 4 port video card
I also want to be able to record and view online.
What other hardware do i need? do i need a seperate DVR box? does each camera just plug into a port on the video card (4 port card mean 4 camera's?) what about the wireless camera?
Thanks for supporting the ignorant

maybe I can help attract some replies?
I don't know the answer, sorry.
It doesn't seem to matter where the stream comes in from, if you can pick it up on your box and know the proper /dev or ip address I think ZoneMinder can do the rest.
The wired stuff will probably need to go off the card and the wireless is most likely ip ?
I get the feeling you need a fairly high performance box to run ZoneMinder on if you have a several cameras and especially HiRez with a lot of zones.
Lots of reading to do, ZoneMinder is WAY DEEP like most Linux stuff, it looks simple on the surface and then you find out it has tons of features.
Best of Luck,
Pat Jr.

If you can get a wire out to the barn to install a WAP, you should be good with wireless Axis cams (207w, per example) at least. They're around $280 a piece. On the other hand, if you're talking about a barn, it's going to be dark, and you're going to need something that can handle low-light sensitivity, and I'm not aware of that being cheap in any model of camera that works well. The Axis 221 rates .65 lux and can see better in my caves than I or my coroworkers can in person, but that's wired, and more like $900/cam.
From all accounts I've heard, wired works better than wireless. I have 6 207W's that I have working wireless, and I'm happy with them, but I get better framerates on the wired, and the wireless ones require rebooting fairly often to maintain signal. OTOH, being in a barn, you may not have much interference, I'm in a downtown location, with WAP's of all varieties in the neighborhood, and microwaves, telephones, etc.
