HOW TO INSTALL AN ACTI CAMARA

Post by odelcid »

I bought two different models of ACTI Camaras: ACM-1231 & CAM-6630 respectively. The CAM-6630 is a PTZ dome. I need your help because I do not know how to install them in zoneminder. Please send me the instructions to install both of this models.

Thank You

You can not use these cameras in Zoneminder currently as you can not access a MJPEG stream. However the RTSP protocol these cameras use will be supported in 1.24 when it's released.

That's going to make a lot of people happy from what I've seen in the forums, and open us up to more followers/users. I have all Axis IP cams, so they're already working fine. Would there be an advantage to switching them to RTSP when 1.24 comes out? I think they might RTSP multicast
(and have a copy of VLC or something similar), which would mean anyone wanting to view live video wouldn't be doubling the bandwidth or bothering zoneminder.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

Yes there will be a noticeable reduction in over all CPU usage by switching to RTSP instead of MJPEG. Axis and ACTi are pretty much the only tested RTSP cameras currently. Props to Phil for battling with ACTi to get most of their standards working.

I'm also unsure how Megapixel cameras will function....I have a couple ACTi I hope to test in the next week or so

Hi is there any way that we can have this new version or when are you going to release it. I really need to use this camaras since I already bought them what can I do? Is there anything else I can do to get this new version or to get upgrade that will let me use this camaras

Thank You

ACTi talked about, but never implemented a firmware version that you could access the MJPEG stream without ActiveX or java. However this support dropped off and I never heard anything back from them about this. You can try emailing them to see what the progress, if any, is on this firmware.

Otherwise there is no official release date for 1.24...but I imagine it won't be anytime soon...and could be a month or more.

1.24

Post by coke »

Not sure how much time I can devote to it, but I can stick a 1.24 beta on one of my two servers in a VM and see how it works with one of my Axis 207's (or 221) in RTSP mode, should you need some beta help down the road.

I am a little confused on this. So basically you guys are testing to see if direct mjpeg access is available yet, and rtsp is just for audio?

I just want basic zone minder access without sound. It would be great to get confirmation on it, since its up in the air its the only reason i'm not buying them. I wouldn't mind emailing ACTi to encourage their support on this, and for speedy release. It can't be that hard when 80 dollar cameras have it.

ACTi cameras supported RTSP...and 1.24 will support the majority of ACTi cameras.

ACTi had said they were looking into a firmware that would allow access to the MJPEG stream...however I never heard anything else from them about this firmware.

Ah, i was thinking beta firmware for the camera, not zoneminder 1.24.

On a second note:

How does Vivotek IP7142 compare with ACTi ACM-1231? From the little I've seen the acti has a impressive offering.

Most of my setup's thus far have been recording at .3 to 1fps. So doing rtsp at those rates would be of concern. What about time lapse, at once per hour or day? Mjpeg just seems simpler.

I'm a huge ZoneMinder fan, but; Once per hour/day application could probably be cobbled together much easier than using ZoneMinder.

The IR throw on the ACTi is farther but the ACTi doesn't have a pigtail breakout cable like the Vivotek...the ACTi uses terminal connectors...which is better waterproofing but trying to tell someone how to split around a audio cable into two wires for the audio in / audio out is hard. Other then that they are pretty much the same. The ACTi ACM-1231 is cheaper.

I'm also interested in some ACTi camera's. I've exchanged several emails with the Territory Sales Manager. He was quite happy to answer questions, he did say they were working on camera firmware upgrade.

ACM-1231 supports both MJPEG and MPEG-4 stream and currently, Zone Minder uses RTP/RTSP protocol to access ACTi stream.
Also, ACTi will implement URL Command to retrieve video stream in our next firmware release, target date is on December. This will also make all integration much easier.

....

Our principle and also advantage over firmware is to use a unified firmware for same series where ACM series share the same firmware and will all upgrade to support URL command in next version. This is quite convenient for both you and any of our ISV partner, like Zone Minder.
Looks quite promissing.
So between the ZM upgrade and the camera's firmware upgrade I would hope they can be used on ZM soon.

Thanks jameso for posting that.

Shame I'm stuck trying to do a openRTSP/ffmpeg/vpipe/vloopback solution!

Glad I could keep people in in the loop.
I've not got any ACTi camera's yet and I don't have ZM setup but I'm intrested. To help me shortcut a lot of reading, any change you could direct me to info on running these camera's with the "openRTSP/ffmpeg/vpipe/vloopback solution".

Thanks
