Video problem...camera or card?

Post by bcrawfo2 »

I get this frame that triggers an alarm about once a day. Trying to find out if it's a camera problem or a card problem? That's obviously not right. That's a Suburban there.

Thanks for any input.

First just so you can see what is happening, here are your pictures deinterlaced:

It can be one of several things but if it only happens once a day it could take a while to figure out if there is nothing showing in the logs during the corresponding time of the occurrence.
Does it happen during the same time of day each time?
What are your shared memory settings?
How many other monitors do you have configured and are they the same dimensions?

To rule out the cam ( I don't think it is the cam) you could put a VCR inline with it and set it to record.
My first guess would be to look into memory issues and what are the other monitors doing during that time. I'd also look to see what other processes might be going during that time (memory usage, system load, etc ).

Thanks for replying Cordel.
It's not an isolated event. Here are the times from this today.
19:14:42
16:55:53
15:34:32
14:51:16
13:31:32
11:40:49
10:44:02
09:15:29

Here are some entries in my syslog. I notice that there is a change in FPS....ten seconds after the change from 14.49 to 14.71 fps. Am I onto something?
Sep 21 19:14:11 dom0 zma_m1[30505]: INF [Driveway: 601000 - Processing at 14.49 fps]
Sep 21 19:14:52 dom0 zmc_dvideo[16400]: INF [Driveway: 3067000 - Capturing at 14.71 fps]
Sep 21 19:15:19 dom0 zma_m1[30505]: INF [Driveway: 602000 - Processing at 14.71 fps]

This is the only monitor...I'm just getting started. My shared memory is 256MB/2GB.
The CPU averages 6%. I'm not saying there aren't spikes during the day...but it's a pretty good sized box.
Do I have my Max FPS set to high (at 15)?
Or...should I change my Alarm Frame Count to 2? This seems like it would just mask the problem.

See what dmesg returns just to make sure the driver is not failing or that there are not any sync issues.

Otherwise double check your shared memory settings as described in the faq and you might consider running memtest for a few hours.
