OK. 1.23.3-3 is now packaged for ubuntu.
ftp://ftp.northern-ridge.com.au/zonemin ... 3_i386.deb
The only changes from -2 involve fixing some bugs in the Debian BTS. In terms of functionality it's the same as -2 (which never went into the debian repo).
As per usual, if you're using Debian, get it from unstable, I only provide an Ubuntu package at the above location.

So does that mean that for Ubuntu it is only a version matching thing? No reason to upgrade?

If the -2 is installed and working for you, there's no real need to go to -3.

Cool. And allow me to be the first to say;
When are you releasing 1.24?!?!?
You know it is coming....

First of all... THANK YOU!!! This is GREAT!
second... can someone walk me through the dependancy fix. It seemed fairly simple on the previous post:
Ubuntu 8.04 Server
loaded LAMP and OpenSSH during installation
after installation ran
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
downloaded your debfile and ran
Code:
sudo dpkg -i zoneminder_1.23.3-2_i386.deb
got dependency errors and ran
Code:
Not sure what to do here...
sudo apt-get install -f
which resolved dependencies and finished the installation.
After that I ran
Code:
sudo ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf
followed by
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload
last i changed the option ZM_PATH_FFMPEG to /usr/bin/ffmpeg
Done and working
My system didn't seem to install correctly but I'm not sure how to tell other than zm does not seem to be running?
Thanks.

OK... the link from the installed apache.conf to the zoneminder.conf seems to make things better, but I still had a ton of scrolling messages about weather to uninstall zoneminder and install other things when I tried the "aptitude install -f" option.
Can anyone shed some light on that process...
Thanks!

You want the
bad news? I can't get it to build with the repo ffmpeg packages . . . which means it may have to be dumbed-down again.

Should that be "apt-get install -f" ? If it's aptitude I don't ever use it so I can't help you there . . for the apt-get option I don't usually see options to uninstall zoneminder . . . but it wouldn't surprise me that much as it's one way of fixing the dependency problem

I always use "aptitude", but I thought it was the same as "apt-get". I'll try the same install with "apt-get" tomorrow.

As usual... I messed up.
Turns out that "aptitude" does do some things differently than "apt-get" so it worked perfectly with "apt-get".
Thanks again for your work on this!
I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get to testing everthing...

Thats a shame... do you have a timescale?

Might be a good idea to wait for the kinks to get ironed out and a official release first, as it is changing daily atm.

I just took a week off my real job with the following (partial) todo list:
- 1) Clean reinstall of firewall (IPCop), as it has been having major post-update probs for close to 2 years.
2) A clean ffmpeg-enabled zoneminder release
3) Reinstall main server from ubuntu i386 to ubuntu x86-64 to allow me to easily do 64-bit builds.
4) Get lots done on the Chookhouse which was due for completion in October 2007.
5) Get back to looking at Zoneminder 1.24 (after initial failed builds)
I got 1, 2, and 4 done. 3 will have to go on the back burner for now (I want a clear day to deal with the inevitable fallout of the reinstall). So of my "side projects" 1.24 is bubbling to the top of the list.
The main problem is, however, I am constrained by what Debian and Ubuntu offer as the packaged version of ffmpeg. There is considerably more scope for experimenting with the build than I've done so far, but the answer may be "wait till Debian updates their ffmpeg package" - which I can make some noises about but I have no idea how much notice would be taken.

(PS: You never responded on the other thread about your upgrade probs; have you resolved that?)

If you want we have several x64 boxes here that aren't doing anything...I can install x64 on one of them and let you play with it remotely...and you would have local access to RTSP cameras in our office
