You can change formats for display but the yyyy-mm-dd format is that used by mysql. You can install the calendar.js functionality to just pick dates rather than have to type them also.

Get jscalendar from http://www.dynarch.com/projects/calendar/ and install it into the tools/ subdirectory of your ZM install. Make you you extract it to a jscalendar directory without a version number or create a symbolic link.
