On a mission to get daily image / picture of water level & dock at my fathers home in order to see if my boat is still floating There is no high speed internet available there, only dial-up. I have available a PC, PCI modem, Logitech USB cam which I can dedicate for this. A daily FTP upload or smtp email attachment would be sufficient. Anyone know of an off the shelf app or suggestions on what would be required for this?

Try the webcam utility that is bundled with xawtv. Works great for that kind of task, it can upload to an ftp site directly.
