im adding to one of our applications and we use serial to send data to the windows machine. No i have a couple of remote sites (with zm boxes) that i would like to use to send the serial over.

I have looked at a 232 appliance that will do this for and give me virtual com ports on the windows end to recieve the data. Does anyone know if i can do this using the zm servers, or any linux box for that matter.

Basically the devices connect to the serial port and read serial data normally printed out. We then capture this data and respond accordingly. All i need ot do is transmit that over ip...but ideally without another piece of hardware?

I did it years ago with relatively simple shell scripting, so it's definitely possible. There's apparently at least one open source product that looks like it does what you want.

Thanks Coke.

IDeally im looking for something that has a linux bit (like you link) that also has windows drivers for the recieveing end.

I might write something but it would be easier if it existed elsewhere.

Another option would be to have a linux box at both ends and have serial goin g into one box and comeing out the other
