Diagnostic questions...

Post by snakebyte »

Thanks for putting in the ability to create the diagnostic images. Really cool to see what's triggering where. I've got some questions about the image names though. Does the -d in 00??-diag-d.jpg stand for difference? and the -r stand for reference? Also, it looks like it's performing the calculations AFTER inserting the time stamp, is this correct? (There is always white noise right at the top of my images right around where the seconds are normally displayed) Finally the reference image looks a LOT cleaner than the actual captured images... is some kind of filter being applied to the reference image to make it look so crisp?

Also, some times an event will still trigger when the entire image changes (which I believe is caused by my camera auto-correcting the brightness level) but I'll only see information for one zone and none of the others from the diagnostic images. However, the analysis image shows triggers from multiple zones.

I assume I'll never see diagnostics for the preclusive zone since an event shouldn't ever be created if that zone triggers? I guess to test I should change precusive (or for that matter all other zones) to active?

Hi Ian,

Your assumptions are correct -r is the reference image and -d is the difference image. The reference image may be clearer if your normal captured image has a bit of noise on it as the reference image is an 'average' of several captured images and will have the effect of cancelling out noise or other minor changes.

The timestamp is added after the image is captured and prior to any calculations. This is mainly for historical reasons but does not seems to have any adverse effects on the analysis. However it may change in the future to be post analysis.

You are right about preclusive zones but you should get diagnostic images for multi-zone events. I'll check whether there is a problem that might be causing that.

Cheers,

Phil,
