Panasonic vs Axis

hello All,

I am testing two cameras, the Axis 1011W and Panasonic BL-C20, before I buy a substantial number of them.

Although I think the Axis has an advantage on the software side, being so "Linux" compatible, I was very disappointed by the optics, which show a marked field curvature, and a tad less sharp image.

Any opinion?

thanks for your time,
cheers,
-Gian

To clarify, are you referring to the Axis M1011-w? (Oddly not megapixel in this case)

well, no, I can only confirm what I wrote.

The Axis camera has a wonderful software interface.

I decided to stay with Axis.

The two cameras are about the same price, here in Italy.

Got the Axis 1011w not working

Great cam checked out with vlc, bu i haven't got it working with zm yet.
I use Zoneminder/1.24.2 on Debian. I setup the monitor with rtsp and right params as i've seen in my logs, but right before zm tries to get 1st frame it crashes. I have enabled debug and after all the connection and RTSP/1.0 200 Ok responses, i finally meet this :

Code: Select all

a couple of details about my 1011w :

.- Camera's log don't seem to provide nothing as, i do not why, but the camera's own log it's not working as it remains stalled days ago and do not show nothing about multiple conns (i setted critical&warning&info at the access log configuration).

.- Limited to 25 fps

No one knows ?

Sorry, I've got 5 of them working RTSP on 1.24.2/karmic, used the rtsp preset and they all worked fine. Mine allow anonymous viewers, so perhaps authentication's the issue.

Source tab:
RTSP
RTP/RTSP/HTTP
192.168.254.241
554
/mpeg4/media.amp
640
480

Could be but does not seem so

Tnx Coke.
Question is i have tried enabling anonymous on cam and now in my debug files i see lots of packets flowing (some of them discarded) , but no image at all at zm.

Anyway, when i use with auth, i put tue url like user:password@host and monitor shows as orange (not red) when setted up. Besides, i have not located messages at debug log which say "Auth failed 401" or similar ....

Don't know ...

Do you have zms processes running when you're attempting to view them? Perhaps the cgi's in the wrong place or has the wrong permissions? Do any cameras work? Is it complaining about shared memory in the logs?

Sorry for taking long to answer (quite busy nowadays).
About shm, i do not thinkt it is because :

Code: Select all

herriurbina:~# cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
268435456
As for the zms proccess, indeed it seems it is not running when i click to view the monitor ! :|
However it is located at /usr/lib/cgi-bin/zms. Where could i check zoneminder is searching
the CGIs ? I do not see it at options

I have tested all a bout cgi-bin

...a bit stalled at the moment but, I have tried different things about cgi-bin :

.- copied/linked it to several typical cgi-bin directories
.- granted everywhere to be chmod www-data.www-data
.- edit the zm.conf referring all the different trials (some said this property in this file is not taken into account at all by zm)

The error remains. Firebug console at net tab shows never ending (because they fail) requests to "getStreamCmdResponse stream error: socket_sendto( /tmp/zms-006886s.sock ) failed: No such file or directory http://localhost:888/skins/classic/js/skin.js Line 235"

Same seen in logs. Indeed, such socket file appears for an instant, when first opened for viewing the monitor and then dissappears forever

I have tried lots of different webcams and I though with an Axis IP cam it should be straight forward ... :(

Sorry for insisting

... but I still haven't got to do it work .... I have tried all about cgi's and still the same
