Question about FPS and performance

I've 3 REMOTE cams. 2 AXIS 210 and 1 Panasonic.
The server is a PRoliant DL120 G5 (Dual core Xeon 2GHz), 250GB + 500GB HDDs, Gigabit Ethernet, 1GB RAM with Ubuntu 8.10
I use modect to save events, but this events are saved at maxium of 6FPS... sometimes at less than 1FPS. CPU does not reachs more than 15%
Memory is:
Mem: 1011080k total, 986608k used, 24472k free, 77660k buffers
Swap: 2961400k total, 124944k used, 2836456k free, 545344k cached
I think that it would be a memory problem.
Can Yo confirm it with this values?
If I upgrade t 4GB, Will the FPS increas automatically?
Thanks

I have 2ghz P4s with 2 gig of ram doing better with 4 analog cameras. Yes, go to 4 gig, and bump your shared memory. It is cheap.

I've been searching more about performnce.
I've seen that CPU usage shown on ZM main page is not asI thougth.
1.0 = 100% CPU
2.0 = 200% (or 100% of each CPU if you have 2 cores)
so, I've an average of this value of 1.5~2.0
I think it could be a overload prloblem.
Maybe MODECT to all 3 cams consumes more CPU than it can afford?
I know is a bad idea, but I've X system with gnome installed and runing, showing Montage on the server's room. Does this consume lot of resources?

by now you must have tried by... turning off browser and X all together.
if not, then indeed it will bog you down running x and montage view on your zm server.
you should look into other ways to view monitors if you need to have them up 24/7.
even if you view montage on another PC it will increase your load

I've disabled X at boot, and now I'm getting bit more performance.
From 5 to 8 fps..
maybe the anly solution will be to add more RAM, but... how to know where is the bottlenek? if I upgrde RAM but the CPU is not enought?
