Hello all,
My apologies for this not being terribly specific. I am new to zoneminder and just have some generic questions. I am attempting to set up a 10 IP camera system and was wondering if anyone could give me some recommendations on hardware requirements for the server. I would like the cameras to be set to record on motion, 24 hours a day. I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas, and my apologies if this is posted in an incorrect place.

Few important questions. How many FPS per camera? Which IP cameras, and what resolution will they be capturing? How far do you want the video to go back in time before it's replaced with newer footage?

Thank you for your reply. The cameras will be set to 8 FPS, they are AXIS 209FD-Rs, and will be set at 320 (Capture Width pixels) X 240 (Capture Height pixels). Let's say we want video to go back 3 months with the option to archive important events. Thanks for your help!

why would you buy such a high end cam to record at that resolution are you nuts try 1280x1024

i run 5 axis ip cams at 1280x1024 10 fps on a 1.6gh intel duo

If you get a amd any phenom and about 4gigs of ram and you can run 10 or more cams at the above res. or the intel equivalent which cost more most of the time

but if your gona stick with that resolution almost any dule core pc should do (atholon, core 2 duo)

EDIT: also on my system 1.2tb goes back a little over a month

so if you go with higher res get 4tb of space if you go with lower you might be okay with a 750g or less(estimation based on my experances)
