Hello.
So I'm in the process of updating my 4-year old 4-camera system and whilst mentioning it at work, they are interested in a system.
I have checked the forums and wiki, but as some info is old, I would like people with large camera systems or actual experience installing them using zoneminder.
Starting system would be :-
1) 12 inside cameras
2) 4 outside cameras
But due to the layout, rooms, corridors etc. I could see it growing to a 32 camera system.
My house system is a Bluecherry PV-155 card (16-camera) and I would like to stick with Bluecherry if possible. I contacted them over the weekend, but haven't heard back yet.
I see they have a PV-981(120FPS pci-e) & a 240FPS PV-183 cards but not a 240FPS in pci-e. Which would you choose ? I gut reaction is to go for 240FPS but I would also prefer the higher bandwidth capability of the pci-e bus.
I'm sticking with Axis for IP cameras and have noted that all but the 206 have movement detection built in which will reduce load.
Then there is the server. Should be simple but assuming the worst, 32-cameras, all IP, lots of processing going on, bus transfer and to and from the hard disk/s could be tricky. I was once burnt with an Asus motherboard that wouldn't work with various PVR's with mythtv, pluto/linuxmce, and zoneminder. When I finally got a copy of windows XP from a training book installed, it still didn't work. I had Two of them. So I'm ultra cautious about hardware now. Peoples experience and recomendations count more than any theory.
I use PCLinuxOS but what dist do people recommend and with that, what kernel for the dist. I have seen many issues on other PVR projects with OS/kernel issues and want to avoid that this time.
I'm looking at a 5x 1TB RAID
There are also some very nice megapixel cameras around.
Choices and decisions.
Price ???
$2,000 in cameras
Server price ?
All suggestions welcome.
