PLEASE, what's the best distro and instructions for ZM1.24.2

Folks,

I'm going to have to completely scrap my build and start over. What I have now based on the Bluecherry LiveCD and ZM1.24.0 will not support streaming from my IP cameras, and none of the instructions for compiling under Ubuntu 8.10 work with 1.24.2.

I just want a working system. Please, if anybody can suggest a particular version of a particular distro with GOOD instructions to get ZM1.24.2 working, I'd be very much obliged.

My cameras are a mix of basic security cams off of a couple of BT878 cards, and two (so far) Dlink 920 IP cameras.

Installation off of known-good packages (RPM, DEB, I don't care at this point!) preferred but working compile instructions...well hell, I'll try it. Again. After months of agony.

Does anybody know if these packages are any good?

...when combined with these instructions?

They look pretty decent - FAR better than their Ubuntu-family equivalents!

Is there anything better?

Thanks...

I have downloaded ZMLarch and tried it on several machines, so far no joy I am running 1.23.3 installed from the livecd, it runs on just about anything, so far the Arch ver seems not to have the same inheritance. None of these machines are state of the art, but they are not old either, so there is nothing bleeding edge to deal with. I can run several other live cd's on these same machines without issue. I would like to get a 1.24.2 up and running because for one thing a lot of these dlink 910 cams have appeared, 1.24.2 is supposed to pull video off of them without having to log into the cam and check the Java tick. I was able to get ZMLarch to run on a thinkpad t42 but have not been able to get any video into ZM.
