timing in recording wrong?

Post by norzaw »

Hello everybody!

I'm quite new to zoneminder and currently doing my "first steps".

So far I've created a Record-monitor which happily records the video from my Axis p3344 ip camera. To save disk space, I have set the field "Maximum FPS" to 6 in the Monitor properties dialog. I think, the camera does it's job at 30 fps.

Now, when I watch a recording, it somehow looks like slow motion and every few seconds some frames are missing. I've got the impression that of a 6 seconds time-slice, the first second is "stretched" to 6 seconds duration, but the remaining 5 seconds are dropped.

Could someone tell me what I've done wrong.

If you are using network cameras in anything other than single jpeg mode then the best place to limit the fps is on the camera itself. In other words get the camera to send images only at 6fps, otherwise the camera keeps sending them at 30fps but ZM reads them at 6fps and you will get a backlog. This is different than with analog cameras where ZM has to request each image effectively.

There are monitors presets you can use to limit fps, otherwise for Axis cameras just add '&req_fps=5' for example to the image path. If you are using mpeg streams then you will have to limit it directly on the camera config however.
