Zoneminder Motion Dectect not working.

I have Zoneminder installed on an Ubuntu server per these instructions:

http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... rver_32bit

I have 2 bt878 based cards with each having 8 BT878 chips with one 30fps video port each.

All the video works. Video recording works great. Both of my PTZ cameras work great.

However no matter what I do I cannot get motion recording to work. When I enable it, it just starts recording and never stops. All the event logs state 'continuous' under the cause.

If I turn on motion detection without recording it does not generate any events even if I shake the camera. I've tried everything I can think of.

What am I missing? It almost seems like the motion dection module is not installed or is broken.

-Thanks

Continuous under the cause implys that you are using mocord which is a continuous recording with event detection.
Sounds like you want modetect which only records/logs events.
Zone tuning will likely be required to dial it in.

DUH!

AH I see that explains A LOT... I probably have the settings whacked now from trying to keep it from recording... I thought modect only generated events and no video. I must have read the different modes in the setup 10 or 15 times and it didn't sink in....

I'll try that at work tomorrow.. THANKS!

After posting that I went back and reread what the WiKi says.. It DOES NOT clearly explain that. Here is what it says.
Function
This essentially defines what the monitor is doing. This can be one of the following;
None – The monitor is currently disabled and no streams can be viewed or events generated.
Monitor – The monitor will only stream feeds but no image analysis is done and so no alarms or events will be generated,
Modect – or MOtion DEteCTtion. All captured images will be analysed and events generated where motion is detected.
Record – In this case continuous events of a fixed length are generated regardless of motion which is analogous to a convention time-lapse video recorder. No motion detection takes place in this mode.
Mocord – This is a hybrid of Modect and Record and results in both fixed length events being recorded and also any motion being highlighted within those events.
Nodect – or No DEteCTtion. This is a special mode designed to be used with external triggers. In Nodect no motion detection takes place but events are recorded if external triggers require it.
I can see where ya thats what it says but Modect is kinda vague and mocord isnt much better. I wonder if anyone else has misinterpreted that.

Here it is in PLAIN ENGLISH.

Modect – or MOtion DEteCTtion. Only when motion is detected will events be generated and recorded.

Oh well.........................
