Using filter to create video; a question

I set up a filter to create a video and then delete all images over 5 days old.
It works, but there is a change I would like to make and wonder if anyone has encountered this.
The way the video (.mpg file) are created is that each event causes a separate mpg file to be created.
But, I would like to have all the events for a camera to create a single mpg file.
Is there a way to configure Zoneminder to do it this way?
I think I can pretty easily do it with either a cron shell script, or, if I knew Perl, could probly do it in zmvideo.pl ( but I don't ).
Anyone else done this, or maybe is there a compelling reason why it shoul not be done. I just find that using the event viewer to see events is just not very smooth and maybe this would make it easier.
