Use laptop cameras for surveillance?

Hi!

Does anybody know if it is possible to remotely connect to laptop built-in webcams to use them for surveillance? We are leaving some of our laptops in the office during nights and weekends and I think it would be good if they could be used to increase the level of seciruty a bit.

We are all using Dell Latitude E6500 laptops with Windows Vista in our office.

If you are stuck on Windows Blue Iris would be a decent candidate.

Well, I already have a linux server where ZoneMinder is running smoothly, for the moment only with one network camera attached though.

I would like to have ZoneMinder connect to the laptop cameras in some way. From what I read about Blue Iris it seems as a replacement for ZoneMinder, not a way to have ZoneMinder connect to the laptop webcams, am I right?

In that case, you could use VLC on the laptops to create an mjpeg or mpeg4 stream for the ZoneMinder box to pick up.

Use a live cd to run zoneminder on the laptop, pop it out next morning and boot into windows on the laptop.

Will take a bit of initial configuring, but once sorted should be reliable.

Thank you all for your help. I will try coke's example, that sounds like exactly what I was looking for
